Deliziosi Pasti di
Cote de Luna

To improve my typography and formatting skills, I was given the challenge of creating a sample recipe book for some recipes which one of my art professors was developing. I was given free reign as to how I wanted the layout of the book to appear, which included the size of the book. I decided to take the challenge a step further and created a set of recipe cards instead of a book. Since the images of the finished recipes we were given were square, I settled on an 8” x 8” card size. That is a bit larger than your typical recipe card, but a lot of information needed to fit on the card - the name of the dish in two different languages, the ingredients, the how to steps, and a small story about the recipe.

To further complicate things, I decided to categorize the cards according to what course they would be served in a traditional Italian meal. To fit all of the information on the cards, I made each card fold, so the open size was 8” x 16.” The picture of the dish was on the front of the card, the name ingredients, and directions were in the middle, and the story was on the back of the card. To pull it all together, I created a recipe box that would house the cards, complete with a small stand on top of the box to hold the card while cooking.
