Demographics and Psychographics
When developing any line, it is important to discover what your competition is doing, so you can find your niche in the market. The scrub companies Jaanuu, Figs, and Cherokee created scrubs for the market that I targeted. Part #3
Competition
When developing any line, it is important to discover current trends in fashion, and your niche market. Additionally, for a more function based line, it is important to take into account the needs of the wearer. Part #2
I began my research by defining the Demographics and Psychographics of our niche market. The niche market I chose to research was registered nurses who worked in private offices rather than the hospital setting. I named the line "Feminine Genius" to reflect both the more feminine nature of my niche and the brains of the women who would wear the garments. Part #1
Fashionable Scrubs for Medline
In the fall of 2018, Medline, a medical supply company, asked several of my design colleagues and I to create a line of "fashionable scrubs." We spent several months researching, developing, and innovating, fashionable and serviceable scrubs for different occupations that
wear scrubs.
Environmental Scan
Despite the enormous amount of information one can receive from Environmental Scans and Competition research, it is important to discover directly what the consumer wants. I contacted registered nurses in my chosen market to uncover what they wanted. Part #4
Market Survey
After I completed the background research for the project, I decided to break the design process into two parts. Part one included sourcing fabric and deciding on the color story of the line. Part #5
Design Process Part #1
The final part of the design process is the creation of the line itself! Part #6
Design Process Part #2

After all of the research has been completed, and the designs are finalized, the garments evaluated to see at what price they would be able to be sold. If they are too expensive for the target market, then the designer needs to revise their designs. Part #7
