Dia de los Muertos
During my internship with the University Ministry at Dominican University, I was tasked with creating the poster for the Day of the Dead celebration on November 1st, which also happened to be All Saints Day. The theme for the celebration was “Imago Dei” or “Image of God.” I decided to combine the familiar floral imagery and pair it with the famous image of God and Adam by Michelangelo, to tie in the theme of “Imago Dei,” but in skeletal form. After I was finished with the poster, I was asked to create a banner for the ofrenda display, replacing the hands with a monarch butterfly whose wings contained a quote by Our Lady of Guadalupe in the native language of St. Juan Diego.
