Layers Logo
In order to better understand the creation of a logo identity system for a company, I was challenged to create a logo and implement it, for an imaginary business. I was given the name of a company and a brief description of what it sold. To make things more interesting, I was told to create the history of the company which would inform my final design. The company I had to work with was a cold weather clothing company called “Layers.” I understood “cold weather clothing” to mean nice winter clothing for women with layers that could be snapped on and off. I experimented with snowflakes, faces, and dress forms, until I decided to use
overlapping diamonds as the main body of the logo mark.

The diamonds were used to represent the different layers of the garments that could be purchased at the store. The integration of the name of the company was a bit more difficult, and it took several tries until I settled on the placement of the name over the diamonds. When it came to color, I attempted several different iterations using hues of gold, but that usually ended up looking like a burnt hamburger. I finally switched from gold to blue, and all of the pieces of the logo just came together. For a later project I designed and programmed a semi-functional responsive website for the imaginary business.
