Horrible Design

Situated on the corner of Quincy and 2nd Ave, is a design monstrosity. This unassuming house appears to have all of the characteristics of a quaint rural home.

It is a small, white brick home, with growing room and ample outdoor space. It even has a touch of class with an outdoor porch. Who would not want to live in such a cute house? However, the design monstrosity lurks within the shadows of the quaint porch.

When you look really closely, you realize that for some unknown reason, the architect who designed the house, decided to place a spiral staircase on the porch. He chose the worst place for this staircase, just feet in front of the door. At first I thought that perhaps the home was divided into apartments and the staircase was used by the residents living in the upstairs apartment. However, considering the placement of the staircase it seems to disappear into the roof of the building, and not into a full room. My next thought was that perhaps the stairway led to an attic storage area, but the shape of the staircase is highly impractical to transport items to storage. My final explanation for this strange staircase was a fire escape. However, the staircase itself is a fire hazard. This staircase blocks the original exit of the house possibly trapping people, and it takes more work to navigate such a narrow spiral staircase especially if you need to carry someone down the stairs.

I do not know why the architect decided to place the staircase where he did, but I do know that this design is very impractical and at worst a fire hazard.
